Shopify Pricing (2024): Which plan is right for my business?

You’re not the only one who may be considering using Shopify to create your online store .

Being one of the leading eCommerce platforms on the market, Shopify has earned a strong reputation as a secure and easy-to-set-up solution.

In this guide, we show you Shopify’s new pricing structure for 2024 and help you choose the plan that best suits your business or idea.

Shopify prices and plans How much does Shopify cost per month?

Although Shopify’s prices may seem a bit high, it is the best value for money on the market. By just having two or three sales a month, you cover the expenses of the monthly Basic plan.

On the other hand, Shopify regularly offers promotions, such as its current trial for 1/month for three months .

Below we explain Shopify’s plans in more detail :

*Third-party transaction fees apply if you don’t use Shopify Payments.
** Shopify Prices updated as of January 2024.

Below we explain each of the main Shopify plans in detail. You can upgrade to the next plan at any time.

Starter Plan: 5/month

The first plan I want to talk about is the 5 per month plan, Shopify Starter (previously known as Shopify Lite).

This plan acts as a plugin to add products to any website, blog or social media with basic order management and analytics tools. It does not include the tools to create your online store.

For example, if you already have a blog or website, you can add the Shopify plugin (even if your website is hosted on WordPress).

After Shopify Starter, Shopify offers three main plans: Basic, Shopify, and Advanced.

Basic Plan: 25/month (monthly) or 19/month (annual)

Are you starting a small business or an online store for an existing one? This is the plan for you, since just 2 or 3 sales will cover the cost of the subscription. However, that 2.9% + 30 transaction fee will add up quickly if your products are expensive or you sell a lot of units.

Shopify Plan: 65/month (monthly) or 49/month (annual)

As your online store has more sales, the Shopify plan, you will need more detailed reporting analysis and more advanced ecommerce automations, creating gift cards and recovering abandoned carts .

These features may not be necessary for a small online store, but as you expand, they will help you retain more customers. This is a suitable plan if you generate an income of 5,000 per month .

Advanced Plan: 399/month (monthly) or 299/month (annual)

If you already have an online store that earns more than 10,000/month and you have a customer base, several employees and you want to expand to other countries, the Advanced plan is for you.

You can get shipping rates calculated by the best shipping companies to offer your customers various shipping options, calculating import duties and taxes at checkout.

The online store is unlimited both when it comes to adding products and storage, so you can publish as many products and collections as you want.

Shopify Plus (From $2000/month)

Finally, the Shopify Plus platform is its superior plan, which starts at $2,000/month and requires a large volume of orders and annual billing ( > 1 million annually ).

Which Shopify pricing plan is best for me?

If what you are looking for is to sell your products on social networks or on an already created website, I recommend starting with the Starter plan . It offers you product pages and a complete, totally secure purchasing process.

Once you start having sales, scale your store to a Basic plan , which costs 25/month if you pay monthly, or 19/month if you pay annually. If your idea is very clear, contract the Basic plan directly, now for 1 per month for the first three months .

Moving up the price scale, the Shopify plan is worth 65/month (monthly) or 49/month (annual) and adds Ecommerce automations and more detailed reports. It is a good decision when you have a stable long-term customer database.

The Advanced plan (399/month; 299/month) offers support to expand your business to other countries.

Finally, the Shopify Plus plan , available to very few (but not impossible), aimed at online stores with a large volume of orders and a turnover of at least 1 million dollars annually.

Does Shopify have a free plan?

Shopify doesn’t have a free plan, but all of their plans include a 3-day free trial without having to give your card details to get started. If you’re not ready yet, after testing, Shopify stores your store information for 2 years.

Will Shopify give me a free domain name?

Shopify plans do not include a free domain name, but you can purchase one in the Shopify domains section or add one you already have. The domains section also contains tips on choosing a good domain name, along with information on subdomains and country codes.

Additional Shopify Costs

In addition to the cost of paying a monthly Shopify subscription, as your store grows, you’ll need a premium theme and apps.

Here are some of the most common costs associated with using Shopify:

  • Domain : Must be purchased separately from a domain name registrar, such as Namecheap or DreamHost for around USD15 per year.
  • Premium Theme : While it’s totally possible to use a free Shopify theme, businesses often upgrade to Shopify templates that offer more features. Premium themes range between 75 and 300 Dollars.
  • Apps for Shopify : To extend the functionality of a Shopify store, businesses often pay to use premium plugins. Pricing varies from plugin to plugin, but ranges from as little as $5/month to hundreds of dollars.
  • Development and design: In some cases, you will have to choose to hire a web developer or designer to help you customize your online store and to mitigate any unforeseen events that may arise.
  • Your time: Of course, building your own online store will cost you time.

What is Shopify Payments?

Shopify Payments is Shopify’s own payment gateway. Payment gateways are integrated tools that process and authenticate payments within an online store, so the customer does not have to go elsewhere to pay. PayPal is the best-known example, but others include Square and Stripe.

If you’re setting up a store with Shopify, it makes sense to use Shopify Payments as your payment gateway as it reduces your transaction fees to zero. It also allows you to see your payments in real time. It’s free to use, you just have to select it when you set up your Shopify store.

If you use another provider, an additional commission is added (Shopify will charge you a commission of between 0.5% and 2% per transaction, depending on the contracted plan).

Why choose Shopify?

The best ecommerce platforms are all-in-one tools, like Shopify, that allow you to set up entire online stores without any programming or web design knowledge.

The main thing we like about Shopify is the fact that you don’t have to worry about web hosting and its ability to fulfill orders.

Shopify eCommerce features include:

  • Integrated sales channels including eBay, Amazon, Facebook and Instagram.
  • iOS & Android apps to manage your online store from anywhere.
  • An integrated inventory system.
  • Groups into collections to help keep your store organized.
  • Point of sale (POS) devices to sell in a physical store.
  • An extensive App Store to add additional functions to your online store.
